Organizers of the Gelre Festival

This is the page of 't Remunjse Giant Guild, or the Giant Guild Roermond. The guild was 25-years old in the year 2008 and set a centuries-old tradition, because the city had been in medieval times a Christoffel giant.

On this tradition came during the turbulent period of the French Revolution to an end. The giant disappeared without trace. But during the time the giant disappeared for the second time, this time from the collective memory of the inhabitants of the Limburg bishop city.

In 1982 quarters one great way to 750 years city Roermond. In an ideal opportunity to dive in history, and for the many festivities to find in the rich past. During that search we also knocked on the giant urban phenomenon. It was the rebirth of the city giant, which proudly during the closing party weekend tens of thousands of visitors were shown.

The guild is a small but extremely active association. Barely two years after its founding in 1985 we organized the first major parade. Furthermore, it was the cradle of the grouping of Dutch giants.

The pageant has since grown into the Gelre Festival. As more and more groups from several countries shaping the historic parade and a few days a very attractive city Roermond or neighbors to stay, they joined during their stay at various squares on.
